In the process of water injection, operation, drilling and acid fracturing in oilfield, it is unavoidable to cause clay swelling and migration, therefore reduce the formation permeability and make water injection and production more difficult. We developed a new type of clay stabilizer after thorough investigation of worldwide literature in this subject. This stabilizer has low and uniform molecular weight. It can prevent bridge plugging and pore blocking. It appears as non-wetting on sandstone surface, reducing water saturation. It has strong affinity to clay surface, resistant to the flush of hydrocarbon and brine. Because the cations on the polymer can exchange with the low valence cationic in the layer of crystals or on the surface of clay, and “neutralize” the anions, therefore reduce the static repulsive force among the crystal layer or particles. While the crystal layers shrink it prevents hydration and expanding of crystal. Furthermore, the polymer chain can absorb on multilayer of crystals or particles, preventing the dispersion and movement of particles, and function as clay or particle stabilizer. This product is mainly for low permeability reservoir anti-swelling treatment.
